DMPTool

Use DMPTool when applying to U.S. funding agencies

DMPTool is a free, open-source, online platform that helps researchers create high-quality Data Management Plans (DMPs) tailored to specific funding agency requirements in the U.S.
Managed by the University of California Curation Center (UC3) and supported by the California Digital Library, the tool is widely used by institutions across the U.S.

Who should use DMPTool?

While Canadian researchers are encouraged to use the DMP Assistant to meet Tri-Agency requirements, the DMPTool is especially useful for:

  • Researchers applying to U.S.-based funding agencies, including the NSF, NIH, DOE, NASA, and more

  • International collaborative teams working with American partners

  • Projects funded by philanthropic or private organizations that appear in the DMPTool funder list

Should I use DMPTool or DMP Assistant?

  • Use DMP Assistant for most Canadian funders, including CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC, CFI, and to access UBC’s customized DMP templates.

  • Use DMPTool when working with U.S.-based funders or international collaborators requiring a U.S.-focused plan.
